The Race is On with the Capitan Schools launching its 2014 entry in the national Keep America Beautiful Recycling Competition! Capitan will be competing against other NM schools in New Mexico and across the nation see who recycles the most between October 20 and November 15th, the national America Recycles Day. This year is the fourth KAB
Recycle-Bowl youth recycling competition!!
The Capitan Schools and Capitan Schools Alumni Association kicked off its school drop-off recycling program on the grounds of the Capitan Schools several years ago. Supported by Greentree Solid Waste Authority [GSWA], the recycling group collects clean aluminum cans, #1 and #2 plastic [anything with a neck], to be purchased by GSWA. Also, Steel Can and corrugated cardboard will be a part of this year’s collections. Proceeds from the recycling effort will be invested back in the Capitan Schools by the Alumni group. Program collection activities at the schools’ site are located at the blue recycling dumpsters located in the parking lot on the school grounds.
Capitan School students, parents, and Capitan area residents are again encouraged to begin collection and saving of aluminum cans, plastic and cardboard for drop-off at the schools to show support for Capitan Alumni Association and the Capitan Schools. The recycling program will include some 200 recycling coloring books provided by GSWA for early elementary age students and educational programs for school students and staff through the school year.
