About Greentree Solid Waste Authority
The Solid Waste Authority, organized in 1991, is operated by a
regional Authority Board (with representatives from participating
communities) and its management, to provide efficient, economic and
environmentally responsible solid waste disposal services to communities
and rural residents of Lincoln County in New Mexico. County
residents generate approximately 4.6 pounds of solid waste per day.
Of that waste, approximately 17% is currently recycled and sold by
the Authority, thereby reducing fees associated with landfill
disposal. The remainder is hauled daily to the regional landfill
south of Alamogordo. The Greentree Solid Waste Authority has a goal of
increasing Lincoln County resident recycling from 17% up to 25% of
the solid waste stream. Recycling will keep monthly solid waste fees
for Lincoln County residents to a minimum and continue to reduce the
need for additional tax support.
